When it comes to choosing the right ergonomic office chair, you can get lost in the abundance of choice but I’ve quite cleverly narrowed it down to concentrating simply on the Ergohuman Office Chair Range. They produce quality chairs, all offering the ergonomic adjustments we expect and they’re attractive chairs too.
There are three things that attract me about these ergonomic office chairs: the design, the upholstery and the colour. While the ergonomic factors are of high importance, the chair you will be sitting in for many hours a day must look and feel good too, as that ‘feel good’ factor promotes better output and that’s what many jobs are about these days.
I’ve looked at the Ergohuman Plus Luxury, the Mirus Chair , the Enjoy Chairand the Nefil Chair. They all gave me the lumbar support panel, the adjustable arm rests, the height adjustment, the tilt and all can have headrests fitted. What it boiled down to for me was did I feel good in the chair and did its overall design attract me? It seems strange to say that a chair can be attractive but they can, can’t they? Otherwise, when we go to buy a dining room table and chairs, why do we spend so much time trying to get the ones that suit us most?
Getting back to those Ergohuman office chairs, I knew I was always going to choose mesh upholstery, as leather takes a lot of care, as does run-of-the-mill fabric. Mesh is breathable, it hugs you while you work (and who would say ‘no’ to that?), it’s easy to care for and it comes in the most beautiful range of colours. As well as the usual black or blue, the Ergohuman ergonomic office range of chairs come in red, orange, green, white, grey and burgundy. Some of those colours are warm (red, orange, green and burgundy), while others are cool (white, grey, black and blue). I chose the orange, as it gives me the feeling of warmth, comfort and energy. Orange also gives me the feeling of hope and a bright future so, while I’m sitting in my Ergohuman office chair, I’m feeling very good indeed. If my office chair was blue, I doubt I could perform, as the colour makes me feel both cold and sad. Strange but true.
Choosing the mesh gives my ergonomic office chair a little transparency. What I mean is that I can see the back structure though the mesh and it’s this that makes me love my chair. When looking at any of the four Ergohuman office chairs that I have mentioned, I get a different image. The Ergohuman Plus gives me an image of a square driving wheel (that’s how it appears to me), the Enjoy shows a spanner-shaped structure and the Nefil shows more of an open space than the others. But I chose the Mirus, as I fell in love with that bottle opener shape that appeared to me through that wonderful orange mesh. Cider, beaches and sheer fun. Amazing.
If you need a good office chair, make Ergohuman your starting point. It’ll be time well spent. And money swell spent too.
Why does an Ergohuman chair become a ‘plus’ chair? What was wrong with the first one? And just where does V1 and V2 come in?
The answer to question one is that there is nothing wrong with the Ergohuman and that stating ‘plus’ actually means that the Ergohuman Plus has enhanced or added features. So that’s good news, straightaway. All Ergohuman chairs are sensibly designed, well-constructed and, might I say, stunning to the eye, so let’s see what they both have to offer, before looking at their differences:-
• They have a split backrest, with a dedicated part for the lumbar support which is independently flexible
• They have adjustable seat height and depth, back height and tension adjustment
• They have an adjustable seat recline, which means that you can alter the positioning of your body, to suit ‘on a mission’ typing or being in a more laid-back, pensive-cum- thnking mode.
• They have very clever armrests, which can be positioned just how you like them, looking at forwards, backwards, closer to or further from the user’s body frame, as well as twisted on a diagonal angle.
This diagonal angle suits me perfectly, as I don’t feel comfortable when my elbows are touching my sides, so using that diagonal tilt allows my elbows to be away from my body frame but still support my lower arms on their journey towards the keyboard. I could go on but, as you can see, both the Ergohuman and the Ergohuman Plus deliver extreme satisfaction to the person being lucky enough to have made all of the adjustments to their, and theirs only, ergonomic office chair.
So how do they differ?
It’s probably a good starting point to think of the Ergohuman Plus as being more of a designer chair. So what enhancements does the Ergohuman Plus Luxury have? It boasts more aluminium than the Egohuman (without the Plus) chair and this can be seen in the headrest, as well as under the armrests
Its star-base legs are no longer straight but curved, giving the chair that extra appeal to the eye, a subtle but attractive change The seat base has a forward tilt angle. This is very interesting as, even though the tilt is only four to five degrees from its normal horizontal position, this small change to the angle makes you more alert. Imagine getting ready to stand up from a sofa – you might place your hands on the sofa cushions, or maybe one of the sofa armrests, to give you that lift up but, in the Ergohuman Plus, the very subtle angle lift gives you that ‘on starter’s orders’ feel about your day. You’re ‘good to go’ with your working day and this under starter’s orders feel will probably enhance your afternoon’s performance, by fighting against that heavy feeling you may have, after eating that scrumptious meal you somehow couldn’t resist.
And the second question about what is V1 and V2. These are simply the US names for the Ergohuman office chairs. The Ergohuman V1 is a minimally adjusted Ergohuman to suit the taller and larger user, with an extra two to three centimetres on the seat width and a supporting higher gas lift. The V2 is a combination of the Ergohuman and the Ergohuman Plus and its selling point is that it has a single lever (this is available on all UK Ergohuman chairs) for performing multiple adjustments.
You really can’t go wrong with an Ergohuman. Like the name states, it looks at the human’s needs in an ergonomic, and constantly changing, working environment. Gone is the ‘dining room’ design chair which, in all fairness, might have done the job perfectly well before the digital age arrived. But not now
The Ergohuman Elite also known as Ergohuman – The Ergohuman chair is in the process of being renamed as the Ergohuman Elite chair. Please note that this is a name change only, both models are identical.

References are so important, aren’t they? Okay, they’re essential when applying for a job but they’re also important for many other needs. In this moment, I’m talking chairs. Not just any chair but ergonomic office chairs. Technology in tandem with ergonomics have now produced many wonders in the office chair market but this doesn’t mean that every one of those chairs is going to be suitable for you. After all, we’re different shapes and sizes, different jobs demand different things from our personal frame and build and then there’s the other point of attraction. Yes, the ergonomic office chairs of today can be ‘very becoming (mine’s the Ergohuman Mirus)’ and so that ‘eye candy’ which normally applies to spotting good lookers might also apply to other items too. If the chair gives you that personal buzz, joining forces with it every day gives you a personal satisfaction and getting your head round the complexities of work feel naturally comfortable.
If I was ready to buy another ergonomic office chair, I would look for a supplier who could provide me with genuine references from purchasers of the models in which I was registering a personal interest. ‘Great’ may do little for me but to hear that a chair is a great piece of kit, that the user’s back clicked into place when using the chair correctly, or maybe even that someone is now feeling all-round benefits in both work and home life would make me look more into that particular office chair. I’d also be interested in feedback on the supplier and subsequent delivery time, a bit like those yellow stars you see against the details of well-seasoned Ebay sellers, telling you that they regularly come up with the goods and services expected when buying from strangers.
Me? I’d probably choose another Ergohuman Mirus, once again with mesh upholstery. Now that I know this chair and its adjustments can meet my personal needs, I might look at other chairs in the Ergohuman range e.g. the Nefil Office Chair and the Ergohuman Plus Luxury, as this company, the supplier service and the delivery time, have already been proven to me. If I change anything, it would be the colour, as there’s a fantastic range to choose from.
I don’t need a new Mirus chair yet, as the Ergohuman range of chairs are very sustainable but I am going to treat myself to a footrest. Serving also as a leg rest when my chair is in a reclined position, this little added extra is going to heighten my pleasure during those laid back hours. That’s me sorted … .
The name ‘Enjoy’ for an ergonomic office chair makes you like it straightaway, doesn’t it? Still, we’re inquisitive creatures and would need to know a little more before purchasing, wouldn’t we?
Well, the Enjoy ergonomic office chair is one of the stunning designs offered in the Ergohuman range and I always advise that this is the best place to start looking if you want a seriously effective chair. With autoflex zones which give lumbar support, a single lever for making many of the adjustments (including back height , back tilt and seat slide), three-dimensional arm rest adjustments (height, width and angle) and the option of a headrest, this ergonomic office chair is serious business when it comes to looking after the human frame.
The chair frame is very inviting to look at, the back support giving the impression of a tree and its branches. To me, that has the psychological feeling of growth and that’s something that is needed in the work environment. Gone are the days of chairs designed simply to sit on; today’s chairs have to sell themselves by looking good as well.
The upholstery I would go for is mesh, as it offers so many advantages. It’s breathable and thus helps to keep you cool longer. It’s longer-lasting, as the mesh is tightly-woven. It’s easy to look after, simply needing the occasional wipe over to keep it looking clean and fresh. And, as for colour, you can have straightforward black or blue, or go for a more interesting red, green, orange, burgundy, white or grey. Teamed with a white, black, or silver frame (for me, in that order), you’ve got a nice piece of equipment to help you with your job. It looks good, feels good and so do you!
